I know a very successful professional ( my brother, in fact) who is nearly 44 years old and has not yet paid off his student loan. His attitude is that it's been such a long time "why are they still after me?"

He's on his third marriage, travels extensively, never deprives himself of anything, and yet gets so outraged that he has to pay off this debt.

He found out that even if someone declares bankruptcy, that debt will still be on the books.

If he dies, Sallie Mae gets their money out of his estate. It doesn't end til you pay it off. End of story.

My brother is living proof that you don't have to be poor to be a deadbeat.

:p this is genius! I totally agree and seriously people, just pay off your student loans! no matter what you do; you cant get out of it! So just pay it off, whether it be by monthly payments or a straight pay off, pay up!! Besides many of you have so many luxuries and have no reason not to pay, i mean many have homes worth a million and cars worth hundreds of thousands. and how did yall get that? obviously bygoing to college & getting a good degree in a good field so just pay off your loans; the student loab companies. mostly sallie mae is the people who helped you get you mind right and helped you be able to goto college so just pay your *** debts and loans people!!!!!

Comments on Sallie Mae is not a charity/ It's your debt. pay up.
