After law school, Sallie Mae held my loan in the amount of approximately $22,000.00. Due to a major illness during which time I was unemployed, I took several forebearances. I lived in the same home with the same telephone number for the past 10 years, so Sallie Mae always knew where I was and I always submitted forebearance requests in a timely mannner. I did not realize I had used up the allotted forebearance time and Sallie Mae happily placed my loan into delinquent status without explaining what the problem on my end was. This added 40% to my loan and my loan is now in the $40,000.00's. Why punish someone who is trying to comply, but ran into a difficult situation?

I have been paying my student loan for 30 years. When President Clinton into office a lot of people had their loans forgiven by the government. I was not one of the lucky ones. After paying on a loan over 30 years come on, you know that loan has been paid three times over. Where and when will this end?

Be very wary--they did this to me as well. I did not realize my forebearance was done and no more could be granted until I received a collection call--then they stopped calling all together and I've been chansing this loan from one collection agency to another for four years now!
